December 6th STEM League competition at Wallkill Valley:
Nov. 3rd Northern Valley Demarest High School STEM Design Competition - Hosted by Adam Brunner
Northern Valley Demarest in one of four new hosting sites this year. Adam did a great job relating the design problem to a real world situation.
3rd Annual Waldwick HS Veterans Day STEM Competition - Thermoelectric Materials - Hosted by Jim Drechsel and Brian Browne
Once again based on a military application theme, teams had to create a military helmet to keep a soldier cool and prevent heat exhaustion using Peltier Tiles. The STEM lab required the teams to show how they would test the efficiency of the Peltier device adapted to fit a cardboard prototype helmet.
Our Veteran Guest Speaker was Capt. Ben Cascio; a Medal of Honor recipient who flew over 850 missions during the Vietnam War. Capt. Cascio lost vision in both eyes during an attack while evacuating 8 marines under fire and flew them to safety in an overloaded helicopter with his hands on the dials of the instrument panel. Ben Cascio is also in the Aviator Hall of Fame. His presentation was about making the most of every situation and living by the three "Ts":
Tradition
Training
Teamwork
